About Boucher

Marcel Boucher started his one costume jewelry company in 1937 after stints at Cartier and Mazer Brothers.  Born in Paris, he moved with Cartier to New York City.  Boucher was known for his bold designs of animals, plants, and people as well as his enamel work.  He married late in life to his former assistant, Sandra, who ran the company after his death in 1964 through 1972.  Boucher used many different marks that can help date the pieces.   “MB Sterling” – 1942 and 1944. From 1944 and 1949 pieces may have a Phrygian cap above his initials. After 1944, pieces may have either of the following marks –  “Marcel Boucher” or “Boucher.” If the piece has the copyright symbol it is after 1955.  Serial number dating may be found here.
