What is a Fascinator

The fascinator is the most often misused hat term since it’s used to described all sorts of small hats.  Today the term is used to mean an ornamental head adornment comprised of feathers, flowers and trims, but without a crown and brim configuration usually seen in hats. Occasionally they have a tiny base which the trims are attached to, but the base does not resemble a traditional hat body. They attach to the head with a clip, tension band, elastic or combs (and sometimes ribbon or cord ties). Even though the base of the hat is small or non-existent, the trims may be massive and can include feathers or other objects that tower above or project out from the head several feet.
