About MM – Morris Moskowitz

Morris Moskowitz Corp., commonly known as MM, built a reputation as a leading American handbag brand from the 1950s through the 1970s. Fashion-conscious women prized MM handbags for their high-quality craftsmanship and timeless, elegant designs, making them highly collectible vintage pieces today.

Morris Moskowitz founded the company with a vision to create handbags that balanced practicality with sophistication. He designed MM handbags with luxurious materials like leather, suede, and fabric, often adding distinctive metal hardware, bold clasps, and unique finishes. The brand’s range included everything from classic evening bags and clutches to structured day bags, all crafted to embody a refined sense of style.  The company was an early adopter of logos as status with their MM bag tags.

Upscale department stores and boutiques across the United States stocked MM handbags throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Shoppers appreciated the bags’ durability and elegance, as well as the brand’s focus on quality. While other designers pursued more avant-garde styles, MM maintained a classic aesthetic that appealed to women seeking timeless designs.

MM also attracted international attention, particularly in Europe. However, as fashion trends evolved and designer labels gained prominence in the late 1970s, MM’s popularity began to wane.

Today, collectors seek out vintage MM handbags for their enduring style and fine craftsmanship, capturing the essence of mid-20th-century American handbag fashion.
