Who is Christian Lacroix
Christian Marie Marc Lacroix, is a French fashion designer. Lacroix’s designs combine luxury and insouciance. He prefers artisanal trades, fringe, bead, and embroidery. Born in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône in southern France in 1951, he sketched historical costumes and fashions. After studying Art History at the University of Montpellier, he enrolled at the Sorbonne in Paris intending to work as a museum curator.
Lacroix opened his fashion house in 1987. Eventually, Lacroix launched jewelry, handbags, shoes, glasses, scarves, and ties. With his background in historical costume and clothing, Lacroix made headlines with his opulent, fantasy creations. His short puffball skirt (“le pouf”) became world-famous. Despite being a darling of the critics, the company was not profitable due to Lacroix’s opulent style. Purchased by LVMH and later by the Falic Fashion Group, neither company could turn the fashion house around. Finally, the company liquidated in 2009. Lacroix’s fashion and accessories are highly collectible today. Lacroix continues to design in partnership with fashion and home accessory companies
