Delicate floral branches and violet rhinestone crystals give these signed Joseff of Hollywood purple earrings a distinctly Art Nouveau–inspired mood — romantic, organic, and just theatrical enough for Old Hollywood.Â
Vintage Joseff of Hollywood Earrings Details
Late 1940s Joseff of Hollywood Purple Earrings featuring flowing floral branches, rich purple rhinestones, and the unmistakable matte Russian Gold finish that made Joseff jewelry a Hollywood favorite. Still displayed on their original Jeweller to the Stars card, these dramatic clip-on earrings blend romantic botanical styling with mid-century glamour.
Sweeping vines, dimensional flowers, and saturated purple stones create an Art Nouveau–inspired look with unmistakable Joseff flair. The warm, softly antiqued finish offsets the vivid stones beautifully, giving the earrings depth and theatrical presence without feeling heavy-handed.
Founded by Eugene Joseff in the 1930s, Joseff of Hollywood became the jeweler of choice for film studios, creating jewelry designed to sparkle on screen without producing harsh camera glare. After Eugene’s passing in 1948, Joan Castle Joseff expanded the retail line, bringing the brand’s distinctive historical and romantic designs to collectors and fashion lovers alike.
Signed Joseff on the reverse and presented on the original display card, these collectible vintage earrings make a striking addition to a Joseff collection or a memorable statement piece for lovers of botanical, Hollywood Regency, and Art Nouveau–inspired jewelry.

ABOUT JOSEFF OF HOLLYWOOD
About Joseff of Hollywood
The Beginning
Eugene Joseff founded Joseff of Hollywood in 1928, establishing it as a California-based costume jeweler for Hollywood film studios. He began creating pieces for movies upon a request from a costume designer friend. After Eugene’s death in an airplane crash in 1948, his widow Joan took over the company’s management.
Going Hollywood
During the Golden Era of Hollywood, Joseff became the most prestigious name in on-screen jewelry, supplying up to 90% of the jewelry seen in films during the 1940s. The company developed a special matte finish called Russian Gold for their jewelry to eliminate camera glare in many films. Joseff also maintained an extensive reference library to ensure the authenticity of period pieces. The special finish makes Joseff pieces unlike another gold costume jewelry.
Icons like Marilyn Monroe in ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ and ‘Some Like It Hot,’ Vivian Leigh in ‘Gone with the Wind,’ Elizabeth Taylor in ‘Cleopatra,’ and other legends like Marlene Dietrich and Lucille Ball prominently wore Joseff jewelry. Each design underwent meticulous crafting to appear authentic on screen. Leveraging this recognition, they expanded into a retail jewelry line sold through department stores.
Joseff Today
The company continues to rent jewelry for major Hollywood productions and sells jewelry from the original molds through its online business. Interestingly, Joseff also manufactured precision airplane parts during WWII and continues this production today.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR VINTAGE JEWLERY
Vintage Jewelry Care
Always handle vintage jewelry gently and store it carefully between wearings. Keep each piece in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratches, tangling, or metal abrasion. Avoid contact with water, perfume, hairspray, and household cleaners, which can dull finishes or weaken settings. To clean, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away oils and dust. For metals and stones, use a mild, non-abrasive jewelry cleaner suited to the materials. Never submerge rhinestone or glued pieces in water or use ultrasonic cleaners, as moisture can damage the foil backing or loosen stones. With proper care, your vintage jewelry will retain its beauty and character for years to come.
