Leslie Fay was a moderately priced line of women’s dresses started by Fred Pomerantz in 1947. He named the company after his daughter. Pomerantz used his experience in manufacturing women’s uniforms during WWII to create designs that were highly popular. In the 1960s Herbert Kasper joined the firm bringing with him the Joan Leslie line of dresses, originally started by the late actress. He would later design under his own Kasper label. Pomerantz’s son John took over company operations in the 1970s. The Leslie Fay company continued to prosper until the mid-90s when an accounting scandal forced the company to close its factory. The company was purchased out of bankruptcy in 1997 and still produces dresses today. In 2000, John Pomerantz retired.17
