About Half Hats

Brimless shallow hats that usually sit flat on top of the crown, similar to an extra-wide bandeau, are known as half hats.  Lilly Dache created the half hat, for which she won an American Designer award in 1941.  Veiled half hats were designed by Dior, beginning in 1947.  During the 1950s, half hats remained popular and evolved into variations,incuding openwork half-hats that consisting of a wired piping frame with flowers, feathers, or other trims.  From Hatatorium:  An Essential Guide for Hat Collectors, 2nd Edition.  Check out Madge’s blog post on half hats

HOW TO FIND YOUR HAT SIZE

  • Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
  • Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
  • If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
