About Bergere Jewelry
Jack Pohs founded Bergère in 1940 in New York City. The company, Herbert & Pohs, Inc. was active until 1979 and manufactured its jewelry in Providence, Rhode Island. Initially, the jewelry was called Herbert & Pohs but the company soon switched to the more glamourous name of Bergere.
Bergere made high-quality jewelry that followed the popular mid-century trend of costume jewelry that looked real. Other marks used in the 1940s were Berjac and Berge.
Bergère faced financial difficulties, and the company closed its doors in 1979. Despite its closure, vintage Bergère pieces continue to be collectible and are sought after by vintage jewelry enthusiasts.
