How do you grade vintage condition?

We use a standard condition scale: Fair, Good, Very Good, and Mint. Most pieces fall in the Very Good range, showing only minor wear from age and careful use. Each product description includes detailed notes.

What are your shipping and return policies?

Orders ship within five business days. International buyers are responsible for duties and taxes. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery—please notify us within 10 days of receipt. Buyer pays return shipping, and we do not charge a restocking fee. Full details appear on our Shipping & Returns page.

Vintage vs. Modern Shoe Sizing

Vintage shoes often run smaller than modern sizes, especially those made before the 1970s. Leather can shrink slightly over time, and many vintage shoes are narrower—even when marked as wide width.

Compare the insole length in inches or centimeters to a pair of shoes you wear comfortably. Measure your foot from heel to toe while standing and add about ¼ inch (0.5 cm) for comfort.

A 'B' width was standard for women in vintage footwear, so many pairs may feel snug. If you have wider feet, use a shoe stretcher or consult a cobbler for small adjustments. When in doubt, size up by half for comfort.

About Chanel

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her first millinery shop in Paris in 1910 and quickly gained recognition for designs that rejected the restrictive fashions of the era. By the 1920s, she reshaped modern women’s style with relaxed tailoring, refined sportswear, the little black dress, and the launch of Chanel No. 5.

Chanel’s aesthetic—defined by clean lines, thoughtful construction, and luxurious materials—established a new standard of modern elegance. After Coco Chanel’s death in 1971, the house entered a new chapter under Karl Lagerfeld, whose long tenure reinforced Chanel’s global influence while reinterpreting its historic codes.

Chanel remains a privately held company owned by the Wertheimer family, whose relationship with the brand dates back to the 1920s, when Pierre Wertheimer partnered with Chanel to finance and distribute Chanel No. 5. Today, his grandsons, Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, oversee the company.

In October 2025, Matthieu Blazy was named Creative Director of Chanel, continuing the house’s legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and enduring style.

International buyers are responsible for all customs duties. PLEASE NOTE: Starting July 1, 2021, EU members will incur VAT taxes based on the specific country’s tax rates during importation.

We know you may be wary about buying vintage items. If so, we do offer returns. If you receive vintage pieces and are dissatisfied or if the item doesn’t fit, please inform Madge of your return request within 10 days of receiving the merchandise.
