About Ungaro

Emanuel Ungaro launched his fashion house in 1965, bringing his unique vision to the world of haute couture. His designs quickly gained acclaim for their bold use of color, intricate patterns, and innovative silhouettes. In the 1970s, Ungaro expanded into the jewelry realm, creating pieces that reflected his signature style—vibrant, luxurious, and stylishly avant-garde.

Ungaro jewelry often featured striking combinations of materials, including enamel, gemstones, and metals. His designs drew inspiration from various sources, from art and architecture to the natural world. The jewelry line gained popularity for its sophisticated and eye-catching pieces that complemented his fashion collections.

Throughout the years, Ungaro’s jewelry continued to reflect his passion for elegance and innovation. The brand became known for its distinctive and glamorous accessories, making a significant impact on the fashion world and leaving a lasting legacy in the realm of haute couture jewelry.

Bakelite is an early form of plastic, first developed in 1907 by Belgian chemist Leo Baekeland. It became a popular material in the 1920s through the 1940s, especially in the production of costume jewelry. Known for its durability, Bakelite is lightweight, easily molded, and could be produced in vibrant colors.

In vintage jewelry, Bakelite was often used for bold, chunky pieces like bangles, brooches, and earrings. Its smooth surface, rich colors, and distinctive “clunk” sound when tapped make it highly collectible today. Many Bakelite pieces also develop a characteristic patina over time, adding to their charm and value.
