About Guy Laroche

Guy Laroche was a French fashion designer.  Born in La Rochelle France in 1921, he started his career as a milliner.  From 1949, Laroche worked for Jean Dessès, a popular designer during the 1940s – 1960s, eventually rising to his assistant.   In 1957 Laroche founded his own design house in Paris.

His designs were known for plunging neck and back lines in vibrant colors.   Laroche was one of the first designers to create separates. He developed many popular fragrances for both men and women including Drakkar Noir.  The French government awarded Laroche the Légion d’Honneur in 1987.

Guy Laroche passed away in 1989 and the company appointed Angelo Tarlazzi to succeed him. Later designers included Michel Klein, Alber Elbaz, Marcel Marongiu, Adam Andrascik. Richard René currently heads the house.
