About Joseff of Hollywood

Founded in 1928 by Eugene Joseff, Joseff of Hollywood is a California-based costume jeweler for Hollywood film studios. He began making for the movies for a friend who was a costume designer. After his death in an airplane crash in 1948, his widow Joan took over the management of the company. Joseff was the most prestigious name in on-screen jewelry during the Golden Era of Hollywood, providing up to 90% of the jewelry on-screen in the 1940s. The company developed a special matte finished on their jewelry to eliminate camera glare In many films. Joseff also had an extensive reference library so that period pieces would look as authentic as possible.

Joseff jewelry is prominently featured on icons such as Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like it Hot; Vivian Leigh in Gone with the Wind; Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra; and many other legends, such as Marlene Dietrich and Lucille Ball. Each design was meticulously designed to be genuine looking on the screen. They parlayed this notoriety into a retail jewelry line sold through department stores. The company still rents jewelry to major Hollywood production and still sells jewelry from the original molds through their online business. Interestingly Joseff also precision airplane parts during WWII and makes them to this day.
