About Kenneth Jay Lane

Kenneth Jay Lane (KLJ) was one of the most successful costume jewelers of all time. He started designing shoes for Delman and Christian Dior, using his free time to create jewelry. By the late 60s, he opened his own design house.

Lane has designed jewelry all across the price spectrum from unique designs for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the Duchess of Windsor to Avon; from Bergdorf Goodman to QVC.

Known for high quality and incredible style, KJL jewelry ranges from classic pearls and gold metal door knocker earrings to ethnic tribal pieces and even over-the-top rococo and baroque designs. KJL created designs for many companies over the past 50 years and the age of his pieces can be determined by the marks shown on our KJL blog post.

Kenneth Jay Lane passed away in 2017 but his namesake company is still going strong. Every woman should have at least one piece of KJL in her collection. Be sure to read our post on this amazing and prolific jewelry designer.

Vintage Jewelry Care

Always handle vintage jewelry gently and store it carefully between wearings. Keep each piece in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratches, tangling, or metal abrasion. Avoid contact with water, perfume, hairspray, and household cleaners, which can dull finishes or weaken settings. To clean, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away oils and dust.

For metals and stones, use a mild, non-abrasive jewelry cleaner suited to the materials. Never submerge rhinestone or glued pieces in water or use ultrasonic cleaners, as moisture can damage the foil backing or loosen stones. With proper care, your vintage jewelry will retain its beauty and character for years to come.
