About Mother-of-Pearl
Mother-of-pearl (mop) is the nacreous, lustrous, iridescent lining of the shell of a mollusk. It is carved and cut for jewelry, buttons, and decorative items. MOP is composed of calcium carbonate and conchiolin which form the nacre. MOP is often confused with abalone which has a darker, rainbow luster.
