About Valentino

Valentino Garavani founded the iconic fashion house Valentino in 1960 in Rome, Italy. He swiftly gained recognition for his haute couture designs and exquisite craftsmanship. Valentino’s debut show in Florence in 1962 marked the beginning of his ascent in the fashion world.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Valentino became synonymous with elegance and sophistication. His creations attracted high-profile clientele, including royalty, celebrities, and socialites. The brand’s signature “Valentino red” became a symbol of luxury and glamour in the fashion industry.

Valentino expanded internationally, opening boutiques in major fashion capitals like Paris and New York. The house gained further acclaim for its intricate detailing, luxurious fabrics, and timeless silhouettes.

In 2007, Valentino Garavani retired from the fashion house after showcasing his last haute couture show in Paris. Creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli took over the brand’s reins, infusing a modern yet respectful approach to Valentino’s legacy.   Under their direction, Valentino experienced a revitalization, maintaining its reputation for elegance while embracing contemporary designs and expanding into accessories, ready-to-wear lines, and fragrances.

Valentino is strongly associated with the color red, particularly a specific shade often referred to as “Valentino red.” This vibrant, rich red hue became a signature of the fashion house and is closely linked to its identity and designs. 

Qatari conglomerate Mayhoola purchased 2012 Valentino in 2012 and sold 30% to Kering in 2023.  The company continues to be a prominent force in the fashion industry, evolving with each season while staying true to its legacy of exquisite craftsmanship, sophistication, and timeless beauty.
