ABOUT BASQUE BERETS
Basque berets are named after the Basque region, which spans areas in northern Spain and southern France. This area is known for its unique cultural traditions, and the beret became an integral part of its heritage.
The beret’s history dates back centuries, with origins rooted in shepherds of the Pyrenees mountains, including the Basque region. These shepherds wore berets as practical, weather-resistant headwear made from locally sourced wool. The beret’s circular, flat design allowed it to stay securely on the head while providing protection from rain and sun.
By the 19th century, the beret began to gain widespread popularity, particularly in France, where it became a symbol of the working class. Over time, the Basque beret evolved from a functional accessory into a fashionable one associated with French bohemian and artistic circles. The term “Basque beret” highlights the traditional craftsmanship and cultural roots of the hat in this distinctive region.
Today, the Basque beret remains an enduring symbol of both timeless style and cultural heritage, recognized worldwide for its connection to the Basque people and their contributions to the history of fashion.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAT SIZE
How to Find Your Hat Size
- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
