ABOUT SANDOR
About Sandor
Sándor Goldberger founded the company in 1938, after emigrating from Hungary to the United States.
He quickly established his brand in New York City, where he became known for producing high-quality, intricately designed costume jewelry. The jewelry appealed to women seeking affordable yet elegant accessories that capture the beauty and elegance of fine jewelry without the high cost.
Beatrice Grace McGowen was a notable designer for the company in the 1950s. Her designs often featured delicate floral motifs, intricate enameling, and vibrant rhinestones, setting her work apart from other designers of the time.
During the 1940s and 1950s, Sandor jewelry gained popularity for its unique blend of European craftsmanship and American style. The company’s designs were sold in high-end department stores and became a favorite among women who appreciated its detailed artistry.
Sandor continued to create jewelry until the mid-1970s when the company ceased operations.
Today, Sandor jewelry remains highly sought after by collectors and vintage enthusiasts, prized for its distinctive style and the rich history behind each piece. Jewelry marks include Sandor Sándor Goldberger through 1940 and Sandor or Sandor Co. thereafter.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR VINTAGE JEWELRY
Vintage Jewelry Care
Always handle vintage jewelry gently and store it carefully between wearings. Keep each piece in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratches, tangling, or metal abrasion. Avoid contact with water, perfume, hairspray, and household cleaners, which can dull finishes or weaken settings. To clean, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away oils and dust. For metals and stones, use a mild, non-abrasive jewelry cleaner suited to the materials. Never submerge rhinestone or glued pieces in water or use ultrasonic cleaners, as moisture can damage the foil backing or loosen stones. With proper care, your vintage jewelry will retain its beauty and character for years to come.
