ABOUT OSCAR de la RENTA
About Oscar de la Renta
History
Oscar de la Renta (1932–2014) was a Dominican-American fashion designer renowned for his luxurious, feminine designs. He trained under Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga and later worked for Lanvin and Elizabeth Arden before launching his own label in 1965. His creations, favored by First Ladies and Hollywood stars, epitomized timeless glamour.
Design Impact
De la Renta expanded into accessories and jewelry, crafting bold, statement pieces that reflected his love for nature, color, and intricate craftsmanship. His jewelry from the 1990s–2000s, like your brooch, often featured gilt gold, vibrant cabochons, and nature-inspired motifs.
The House Today
As of 2025, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia serve as co-creative directors of Oscar de la Renta, a role they’ve held since 2016. Both designers began their careers at the fashion house: Kim joined in 2003, rising to design director under de la Renta, and Garcia started in 2009 as a design assistant. In 2015, they co-founded the label Monse, known for its deconstructed menswear-inspired designs. Their tenure at Oscar de la Renta has been marked by a blend of the brand’s classic elegance with modern sensibilities, appealing to a new generation of fashion enthusiasts.
