About Whiting Davis
Whiting & Davis opened as Wade, Davis & Co. in 1876. In 1880 Charles Whiting joined the company and worked his way up the company from errand boy to the artisan to the New York sales rep in ten years.
In 1892, Charles Whiting hand wove the first Whiting & Davis handbag from gold metal mesh, creating one of the first “It” handbags. The company also created its second iconic design, the snake bracelet late in the 1890s.
By 1896, Charles Whiting had partnered with company co-founder Edward Davis, and the name Whiting & Davis was born. Throughout the 20th century, Whiting & Davis created highly sought-after metal mesh handbags, jewelry, and other accessories.
The company still exists today using different jewelry marks to differentiate new items from vintage pieces.
