Here’s to the Red, White, and Blue in classic black and white!
Happy 4th of July from Madge’s Hatbox. During the golden age of Hollywood, the movie studio publicity departments would crank out photo stills for every occasion. Here’s a fun selection of your favorite stars in full 4th of July regalia. If you don’t enjoy these, then I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy!
1942 ‘s “Yankee Doodle Dandy” with James Cagney, Joan Leslie, Walter Huston, and Rosemary DeCamp

Claudette Colbert in a patriotic mood.

Cyd Charisse and those famous legs. Makes you want to buy bonds.

Debbie Reynolds was always such a firecracker!

This early still of Joan Crawford cracks me up. She doesn’t look very happy as the Statue of Liberty.

Paulette Goddard all wrapped up.

My vote for the most beautiful movie star of all time – Hedy Lamarr, looking radiant as a Ziegfeld Girl from the 1941 movie.

And finally on this happy 4th of July, a magnificent photo of Ginger Rogers. A much more convincing Lady Liberty than Crawford.

That’s all from classic Hollywood for now. Have a safe and festive 4th of July!
