Sensational 1930s brown straw plaited hat. The ribbon work has real presence without overpowering the shape.
This hard straw hat is hand constructed from wide flat split-straw braid, spiral-sewn for durability and shape, and finished with a broad brown grosgrain ribbon band accented by softly ruffled ribbon flowers.
The shallow crown and generous brim create a classic 1930s silhouette—designed to sit low on the head and frame the face. A back-of-hat cord adds a practical period detail often seen on garden, travel, and resort hats of the era. The original size label reads 22, though natural age-related shrinkage means it now fits closer to a modern size 20.

- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
