About Dawnelle Gloves

Dawnelle Gloves was a distinguished American brand that crafted high-quality gloves, particularly during the mid-20th century. The brand gained a reputation for its craftsmanship, elegant designs, and use of fine materials like leather and suede. Fashion-conscious consumers, especially women, favored Dawnelle Gloves for their luxury and style.

Founded in the early 20th century, Dawnelle became a staple in the American fashion industry. Upscale department stores and boutiques regularly sold their gloves, which came in a variety of styles—from classic, understated designs to more elaborate and decorative options for different occasions and seasons. Their attention to detail and quality made them a popular choice.

During a time when gloves were an essential part of a woman’s wardrobe, Dawnelle’s designs symbolized elegance and refinement. However, as fashion trends shifted in the 1960s and 1970s, daily demand for gloves declined. Like many other glove manufacturers, Dawnelle struggled to adapt to these changes.

Although the brand no longer exists today, vintage Dawnelle gloves remain sought after by collectors and fashion enthusiasts who appreciate their timeless quality and design.

How to Care for Vintage Gloves

Proper care keeps vintage gloves beautiful and wearable for years to come. For leather gloves, store them flat in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat, which can dry or crack the material. Avoid folding the fingers. To clean, gently wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth and a drop of mild soap—never soak. Allow the gloves to air-dry naturally, then apply a small amount of neutral leather conditioner to restore suppleness. Suede gloves should be brushed with a suede brush and kept away from moisture.

For cotton, nylon, or fabric gloves, hand wash gently in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Avoid wringing or twisting, as this can stretch delicate seams. Press out excess water with a towel, then lay flat to dry. If ironing is needed, use a low heat setting and place a thin cloth between the glove and the iron. Always store fabric gloves clean and away from direct light to prevent discoloration.
