About Sonni Hats
Herb (Sonni) DelMonica, along with his wife Jean, started Sonni of California in Oakland in 1952 after working in his father’s hat company in San Francisco. Known for producing stylish and fashionable hats that reflected the trends of the time, they sold retail out of their shop and wholesaled to upscale department stores such as I Magnin. Clients included Mamie Eisenhower.
Sonni hats featured bold designs, vibrant colors, and creative use of materials, aligning with the glamorous and sophisticated fashion sensibilities of mid-century America.
Despite the downturn in hat sales, the company continued on thru the late 1990s but eventually closed after Sonni and Jean passed away.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAT SIZE
HOW TO FIND YOUR HAT SIZE
- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
