Platter Hat Hat Details
- Show-stopping black cocktail hat.
- Waves of black crinoline cover the top with black velvet piping.
- The shallow crown has a hatband and rear bow also in black velvet.
- Inside the crown is a ring of velvet that fits the top of your hat.
- The rear stretch cord goes under your hair for a secure fit.

WHAT IS A PLATTER HAT
What is a Platter Hat
A platter hat, also called a “plateau” or “platter beret,” was a late 1940s adaptation of a design from the 1820s. The design features a flat disk brim, with little or no crown, on top of a platform called an inner crown grip that fits on the head.
The dish hat, introduced by Dior in 1947, has a similar cup or crown that sits underneath the all-encompassing brim. This style was very popular in the 1950s. From Hatatorium: An Essential Guide for Hat Collectors, 2nd Edition.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAT SIZE
HOW TO FIND YOUR HAT SIZE
- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
