About Maggy Rouff

Marguerite de Wagner was born in 1896.  Her design career began at her parents’ couture house in Paris a branch of the well-known Viennese fashion house Drécoll. Founded in 1896 by Christoff von Drécoll,

In 1929, De Wagner Rouff established her couture house under the name Maggy Rouff captivating the fashion world with her avant-garde creations. Known for her mastery of drapery and impeccable attention to detail, Rouff quickly gained renown among the elite clientele of Parisian society.

Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Rouff’s designs epitomized sophistication and glamour, drawing inspiration from art, architecture, and global cultures. With an emphasis on sportswear, her fluid silhouettes, intricate embellishments, and luxurious fabrics set the standard for modern couture.

Despite the challenges of World War II, Rouff continued to innovate, adapting her designs to reflect the spirit of resilience and optimism. Her resilience and determination solidified her status as a pioneering force in the fashion world.

After Rouff’s retirement in 1948, her daughter, Anne-Marie Besançon de Wagner took over the company and design duties. Unable to capture the attention of younger women, the house closed in the late 1960s.

After her passing in 1971, Rouff’s legacy lives on through her timeless designs, which continue to inspire contemporary fashion houses and designers worldwide. Her contributions to the evolution of haute couture remain unparalleled, cementing her as an icon of style and creativity.
