A classic mens wear 1980s Kangol brown suede trilby hat with a teardrop crease, upturned back brim, and rich suede that gives the silhouette structure and polish.
Kangol Hat Details
This vintage Kangol trilby blends refined menswear styling with mid-century American craftsmanship. Made from genuine brown suede, the hat features a softly structured crown, a narrow brim with an upturned back, and classic vent holes for breathability. A pleated silk hatband wraps the crown, adding subtle texture and a polished finish.
Inside, the original Kangol Genuine Suede stamp remains visible, along with a union label, confirming U.S. production. The suede has a rich, velvety nap that reads warm and wearable—perfect with tailored jackets, denim, or vintage-inspired looks.
This is a timeless trilby silhouette with just enough attitude to feel intentional rather than precious.

That suede. It gives the hat depth and softness you just don’t get with felt, and the pleated silk band is a quietly luxurious touch.Â
Why We Love It
The flat crown, tailored grosgrain bow, and restrained color contrast make this an easy piece to wear, not just admire. It’s the sort of hat that finishes an outfit and those are often the best ones.

ABOUT KANGOL
About Kangol
Founded in England in the early 20th century, Kangol built its reputation on quality craftsmanship and forward-thinking design. By the mid-20th century, the brand had become a staple in classic menswear, producing hats that balanced tradition with modern style. Kangol hats were known for their thoughtful construction, durable materials, and recognizable silhouettes—from trilbies and fedoras to casual caps. The brand adopted its kangaroo logo in the mid-20th century as a bold, memorable symbol—chosen not for geographic reasons, but to suggest strength, movement, and a forward-looking style.
During the late 1970s and 1980s, Kangol gained renewed cultural relevance, with its hats appearing across music, fashion, and street style, cementing the brand’s place as both heritage-driven and enduringly current.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAT SIZE
HOW TO FINDÂ YOUR HAT SIZE
- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
- Then buy a fabulous vintage hat from Madge

WHAT IS A TRILBY
What is a Trilby
Most people have heard the term fedora as a style of hat but fewer know its sibling, the Trilby. Very similar to a fedora in shape, the Trilby has a narrower brim in the front with an upturned brim in the back. Trilbies are also sportier made in a variety of patterned wool felt including plaid, checks, and tweeds. Fedoras have a wider brim all around the crown with no upturn. Fedoras are also usually plain wool, beaver, or fabric.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR VINTAGE HAT
Vintage Hat Care
Always handle vintage hats by the brim, not the crown. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep them in a hatbox or covered with acid-free tissue to prevent dust. Avoid using modern sprays or steam, as these can damage delicate materials and trims. For reshaping or cleaning, it’s best to consult a professional milliner experienced in vintage restoration.
