About Jacques Heim

Jacques Heim was a French fashion designer, born on January 29, 1899, in Paris, France. Heim studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and later opened a fashion house in the city. He became known for his elegant and sophisticated designs, which were popular among the upper class.

In 1946, Heim designed what is considered to be the first modern bikini. He named it “Atome,” which means atom in French, to reflect the atomic age in which it was created. The bikini was a two-piece swimsuit that showed more skin than any previous swimsuit, and it caused a sensation when it was first introduced.

Heim continued to design clothing for women throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and his fashion house remained popular among wealthy clients. He retired in the early 60s and passed away in 1967.

Today, Heim is remembered as a pioneering designer who helped to revolutionize women’s fashion with his daring designs, including the iconic bikini.
