The textured material and understated shape make this vintage 1960s gray tweed flat cap easy to pair with jackets, sweaters, or coats for cool-weather wear.
Vintage Flat Cap Details

Classic mid-century menswear style in a versatile gray tweed with subtle flecks of color. This vintage cap features a softly structured crown and a short snap brim, allowing the brim to be worn snapped to the crown or styled slightly forward.
The streamlined silhouette reflects the ivy cap style popular in American menswear during the 1950s and 1960s. Ivy caps—named for the collegiate fashion associated with Ivy League campuses—feature a lower, more tailored profile than the fuller “newsboy” caps of earlier decades.
This example was made for Robley, a longtime Atlanta haberdasher, and retains both the interior brand mark and a United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union label, indicating American union-made production. Caps with this style of union label typically date to the late 1950s through the mid-1960s.
The textured tweed and understated shape make this cap easy to pair with jackets, sweaters, or coats for cool-weather wear.

IS IT A FLAP CAP OR A NEWSBOY
Flat Cap vs Newsboy
The names newsboy and flat caps are often used interchangeably since both are usually made from tweed. However, there are some differences. Newsboy caps are a bit puffier with a small brim and made with eight section of fabric. On the top, a button out of the same fabric connects the sections.
Flat caps, as the name suggests, is flatter, without the top button and no separate brim. In addition to tweet, flat caps are made from other fabrics and leather. Either way, caps are fun and flattering look for both men and women.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAT SIZE
HOW TO FIND YOUR HAT SIZE
- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR VINTAGE HAT
Vintage Hat Care
Always handle vintage hats by the brim, not the crown. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep them in a hatbox or covered with acid-free tissue to prevent dust. Avoid using modern sprays or steam, as these can damage delicate materials and trims. For reshaping or cleaning, it’s best to consult a professional milliner experienced in vintage restoration.
