About Alice May
Alice Raines created her millinery business almost by accident. After making hats for herself, friends asked for hats of their own. This led to the creation of the Alice May millinery company in the 1930s. Taking inspiration from Paris designers, including Dior, May created copies for the everyday woman and made many appearances at department and specialty stores as “Miss Alice”. Her hats proved very popular through the mid-1950s.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HAT SIZE
HOW TO FIND YOUR HAT SIZE
- Pull a fabric tape measure or length of string around your head just slightly above the ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head.
- Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You are measuring your head exactly where the hat will sit in either inches or centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.
